Myriam and Sister

Myriam and Betty Holly

Mary and I moved to New York in 1968 with our Mother who preceded us in 1965 in search of a better life for her children. We were, altogether, 4 siblings. After I lost my house in 2005 to Hurricane Wilma, in 2006 I moved in with my mother and sister and after a while my sister and I started waking up for prayer in the morning. That's when the Lord put in our hearts to feed His people.

The message was: "Feed my people the way you would feed Me.” So, we knew that it was more like a gourmet-style feeding. We've heard so many times from the homeless that: "There's no other food like yours out here." and to this I respond: "I’m cooking for Jesus."

When we initially got this message, we thought He would give us the kitchen so we waited for a commercial kitchen for close to two years. Never did we think we could do this in our little two-bedroom condo. In 2009, we read in ‘The Good News’ of a lady who started a ministry and said how "God loves small beginnings." She encouraged readers to always start where you're at and He will grow you. So, we decided that since it was the end of the year (2009) we would start in January 2010. January came… so did February, March and April. We looked at each other and said we need to start so, on April 16, 2010 we cooked 16 meals and took to the streets. Our cousins told us there were quite a few homeless individuals on Federal Highway, so we headed out and would just look for them and ask if they were hungry. One day we cooked twenty meals and went out but couldn't find anyone to feed and the Lord directed us toward downtown Fort Lauderdale by a bus stop. We stationed our car right on the side of Mc Donalds and observed for a while. I checked my gas gauge and I was low on gas so I said a prayer: "Lord please let me find enough homeless in one spot so I can unload the trunk of my car all at once.” And the Holy Spirit said turn right… turn right again… then turn left on Broward Boulevard… right on 1st. When I arrived, I looked into a park and there was a sea of homeless people. So this is how we found God's People and we have been feeding them ever since.
